HOW DIGITAL ADOPTION IS UNDERMINING TRADITIONAL FORMS OF LEARNING

“You never stop learning” is probably one of the most frequently used German proverbs. And probably one of the most accurate. After all, life always offers us new insights and experiences – even into old age. Especially during our working lives. It is undisputed that we acquire a lot of knowledge in the workplace, whatever that may be. Most likely even more than in the classroom, lecture hall or seminar. How? Through colleagues, superiors, due to experiences made or new challenges. And also by dealing with new software programs again and again. But: How can I make my learning life easier? And how can I make it much more efficient?

CONSCIOUSLY OR UNCONSCIOUSLY

By definition, learning is the intentional, incidental, individual or collective acquisition of mental, physical and social knowledge and skills. Broadly speaking, a distinction can be made between intentional (or formal) learning and incidental (or informal) learning. In intentional learning, learning is intentional and mostly guided. One acquires new knowledge or new skills quite consciously. According to experts, intentional learning is only possible for children from the age of about six, which is why intentional learning, along with social maturity, is the most important characteristic in terms of school readiness. In contrast, incidental learning (some also speak of implicit learning) describes incidental learning in which other things are perceived and retained in addition to the content to be memorized. And this is done without a corresponding learning instruction. Of course, there are many more subdivisions of learning in psychology and pedagogy. And it is quite clear that learning processes nowadays only take place to a small extent in educational institutions. People learn at home, in interaction with family, friends, neighbors or any other people. And, of course, at work.

HOW DO I FILL MY KNOWLEDGE BACKPACK?

According to a survey (see Statista), around 34.06 million people in the German-speaking population aged 14 and over consider it important and worthwhile to always learn something new. In terms of the workplace, therefore, companies need to give more and more thought to providing their employees with an environment that allows for continuous learning. But how? Intentional or formal learning certainly helps to build up appropriate know-how, especially theoretical know-how. To fill the proverbial knowledge backpack. Instead, it can be done in a playful manner in the truest sense of the word. The answer to this is called digital adoption. This enables employees to learn how to use any software correctly. Without training, without constant queries. They work more efficiently and learn at any time. Even in programs they may use only rarely. Users are given direct reflection in the software, thus gaining experience and being able to check their learning success at all times. Because: At every moment, exactly the information is provided that is needed to carry out the next step without any problems.
